Listener Suggestion: Samsung BD-2500 for $235

December 4th, 2008

So… hesitant to get into the Blu-ray game? Maybe you don’t want to buy the uber cheap ones n Black Friday afraid you’ll get upgraditius. Listener Ted sent me this suggestion:

I just bought a brand new Samsung BD-P2500 Blu-ray player from Ebay for $235.

The price was $335 (inc. shipping), but Microsoft gives you 30% cash back if you go through their cash back program, up to $200. For my purchase, I got about $100 back.

This is how it works:

Find what you want on Ebay that you can buy using Buy It Now and pay for using PayPal.

Take note of the Item Number.

Go to Live.com and search for terms related to whatever you want to buy (e.g., “blu-ray player”).

Click on Ebay’s sponsored link at the top with a “Microsoft Cash Back” icon next to it. This will take you to Ebay. When you get there, you should see an MS cash back icon at the top of the Ebay menu.
Search for your item using the Item Number.

Go through the Buy It Now process and see how much you will get back (you can see how much you will get back before you commit to the purchase).

It’s really, really simple and they don’t care whether the item you buy is new or used. (I just got $200 back from the purchase of a used Macbook Pro.)

You can do this up to 12 times for any items (but you have to close the browser and go through the process in its entirety for each purchase).

You also have to set up a Windows Live ID to get the cash back, which automatically gets credited to your PayPal account. It can take up to 60 days, depending on what PayPal decides (but I did get $25 back for some shoes I bought almost instantly).

Here’s the link to the program.

Anyway, I’ve finally come aboard the Blu-ray wagon so I can enjoy HD audio. Will let you know how it is.

Thanks Ted. Keep us informed.

You are correct sir. I noticed that myself. I’m telling you, we are only a year away from the Netflix streaming toaster.
