AV Rant #308: Angry at Ecstasy

October 16th, 2012

Tom’s back and he has a new mouse! In Australia it is called the M950 but in the states it is the Performance Mouse MX. Special thanks to listener Alan – Tom vetted him for Liz. This week, Liz is getting some money back for some eBook purchases. What do you think of the price-fixing case? Tom is excited about the new 3M/Roku projector. Are you? Liz thinks this eye-wear is cool. Tom isn’t convinced. Tom thinks that XTZ may be the next big thing in high-end audio. (This is the robot that Liz was talking about.) But hearing is believing. SVS’s new Ultra series speakers are out. SVS-fanboys collectively swooned. Spotify invades your TV. Where will gesture control end up? Microsoft is testing out your wrist. Thanks for listening. Check out our Facebook Page. Click here for our YouTube channel where you can see the recordings of our show videos. Download Tom’s FREE superhero-themed ebook Bob Moore: No Hero wherever ebooks are sold (or given away in this case). Visit Tom's website for download links as well as links for the two full-length followups -  Bob Moore: Desperate Times and Bob Moore: Hostile Territory. Check out AVGadgets.com where Tom is the new Editor-in-Chief! Download Tom's NEWEST book, Touch of Pain from Amazon now!

I don’t want to blather on about the book settlement, but (a) they weren’t found guilty — it’s a settlement, and that actually makes a difference. (Note: they definitely set prices for their own books; what’s unclear is whether or not that’s illegal.) and (b) Your problem, Tom, in which the Apple store (or whomever), if they discount, lowers your royalty was not at all an issue here.

I am getting checks and/or credits from Amazon, Sony, Google and Kobo. The differences in the efficiencies with which these four fine organizations implement these rebates is more than mildly amusing.
