Has Blu-Ray really won?

January 8th, 2008 16 comments

steve.jpgOkay, this might be a stretch, but you guys all read what I read, and here is what I see as a serious possibility. This so-called DVD format war might have been all for nothing. Suppose next week at MacWorld the dark sith-lord Jobs announces that he has all the major studios on board for sales and rentals of movies via the iTunes store. (does this sound familiar? remember the launch of the music store?) And further assume that AppleTV, which by all accounts has been a total turkey of a product, is reborn as a device that is capable of delivering these movies/rentals to your HD display in 720p or better.

Say what you want about Apple, but they tend to be innovators. They tend to pioneer things that become the norm. And we all know that digital delivery of content over the net is the future, right?

confessions of a fanboy…

As is always the case when Apple releases a new OS, I plunked down my $129 and pre-ordered Leopard, and it actually arrived at my house several hours before the release time on October 26th – one advantage of living in the boondocks and pre-ordering. While my buddies in Nashville had to wait until that evening for the official release at the store, I was installing Leopard early in the day.

Scavenging the Movie Gallery….

October 17th, 2007 5 comments

The local Movie Gallery here is going out of business, last day is tomorrow. I had actually forgotten about this but was going to see my butcher for a steak, and the MG is next door. I stopped in to find all movies on sale for $1.99. They also had games and a few other things. Here was my haul:

  • V for Vendetta
  • Brick
  • Junebug
  • The Last Kiss
  • Elizabethtown
  • 3 Burials of Mel…
  • Mission Impossible 3
  • Fever Pitch
  • Alien Ressurection (special edition)
  • Alien 3 (special edition)
  • T3 (special edition)
  • Undercover Brother
  • I Heart Huckabees
  • War of the Worlds
  • To Live and Die in LA
  • LA Confidential
  • Ringers: Lord of the Fans (documentary on LOR trilogy)
  •

  • X Box – Need for Speed Underground 2
  • 2 wireless Xbox controllers

All for $42.14!!!

Pretty decent haul. They also had all of their movie-theater box sized candy on sale for $.34 each, so the kids that trick or treat at our place this year will be happy – I bought $17 worth!

Tom – you would have spent $100. They had a HUGE selection of horror…..

Is it just me?

September 19th, 2007 3 comments

Is it just me, or is it kinda weird not having Tom in the country with internet access? I mean, there is nobody to post any bitchy rants here. We’re all still trying to unpack (figuratively AND literally) from CEDIA, and just find a groove. But there is no doubt that Tom is already pissed about something and would be posting by now. I don’t know about you guys, but I kinda miss him. sniff sniff….

CEDIA!!!

September 4th, 2007 9 comments

Headed to CEDIA tomorrow with my red-hot-smokin’ wife, and I can’t wait. Tom & Dina should have some entertaining podcasts, plus plenty of video over at Audioholics.com. Be sure to watch for our coverage – it is always fun.

Anyone have any requests on things for us to look for while roaming the show floor?
