    Tom, Cartoon Network HD is unwatchable stretch-o-vision (like you mentioned)that’s been available for awhile. Unless you plan to unstretch it, you’re better off just watching the SD version. Travel Channel HD has been available for a long time. It’s zoom-o-vision (like you mentioned) for commercials and some older content. However, “Bizarre Foods” is in full glorious HD, and it rocks!

    I had an interesting issue with my Comcast HD this weekend. I recorded the premier of Crusoe. When I tried to watch it the next day, the first 20 minutes had no dialog. I could hear all the ambient sound, but when the actors’ mouths would move no vocals were forthcoming. I noticed that the display on my receiver said it was working in Dolby PLII. When the dialog finally came to life, the display switched to Dolby Digital 5.1. Is this issue caused by my local NBC affiliate forgetting to press some switch or toggle a setting? Anybody have any ideas or similar experiences?

    Comcast does all sorts of weird things to me. I sometimes get entire episodes of prime time shows in a full letterboxed (black bars all around) version with 2.0 sound. It’s like half HD half SD all Suck.

    Early HD broadcast in Atlanta had sound isues like that. CSI comes to mind. Amazing what you hear when the dialog is off.
