Short and funny (and I’m not talking about Tom…)

January 21st, 2008

Took the kids to see National Treasure: Book of Secrets today. Before the movie there was a Goofy short entitled “How to Hook Up Your Home Theater.” It was worth the price of admission alone! Goofy gets home theater envy and goes to the big box store called “Shiny Stuff” or something like that. He gets all the stuff including the following speakers: center channel, left and right speakers, further left and right speakers, surround speakers, surrounding surround speakers, subwoofer and “make you deaf” speakers. I don’t know if everyone else found it as funny as I did, but since I have lived it, I was rolling in the aisle.

    Hey! I resemble that remark!

How geeky am I? I hear “further left and right speakers” and think, “Why are they picking on Yamaha?” I must need rehab or something.

Okay, I am sitting in my hotel room in China reading this, thankful I can truly say to Tom, I had NOTHING to do with the title of this post….

By the way, that (Goofy) short sounds great! Very cool…..

I too saw this and thought it was one of the funniest things I have seen in a long time. I noticed I was laughing much harder than most of the people in the theater. I only heard one other person laughing as much or as loud and I immediately assumed he was a fellow home-theater buff. I especially enjoyed Goofy’s cable-organizing technique.

While I was laughing at it my wife kept looking and me like “you’re such a nerd”. The same thing she says to me when I tell her I’m listening to a Home Theater podcast.

No, no, no… You want to know what a REAL geek is? The sound effect they use when Goofy hugs the ginormous 300-inch TV is actually the sound of a hand hitting the glass on a CRT. But something that big could never be a CRT, so it’s wrong.

Now, top THAT level of geek. lol.
