AVRant #42: Games for Anorexics

February 14th, 2008

Dina starts off being mean to Tom (welcome back). Netflix sucks. Their “watch it now” movies is code for “not a chance sucka”. Tom’s bitter (and sounds like he’s been smoking too much). Will Tom try the iTunes movies? Probably not. Netflix goes Blu which is great for HD DVD owners who will hopefully pick up a few discs for cheap. The Great Lobster Scam of 2008 is exposed. Marketing people are from Uranus. Will The Hobbit movies ever come out? Tom and Dina discuss. There may be video games coming out that will be an all time low. Dina has some last minute Valentine’s advice (not). Tom shares some advice on cooling your equipment. Thanks for listening and have a happy Valentine’s Day.

I’ve been using Netflix “Watch it Now” for almost a year now and have had almost no problems with it on any of our three computers, once of which is connected to my 720p Westy. I did a quick scan of my history and estimate my viewing time around 30 hours. The quality varies (depending on the studio I guess) and is sometimes very close to DVD. It’s especially good if you like documentaries and certain TV shows.

I’m the same way. It is a massively klugy interface, however.

Tom also mentioned having to hit next to go through all the episodes. I’ve never seen a season set page that didn’t list all the shows individually. I guess I’m just so used to the site that I don’t have problems with it.
