AVRant #1: Pseudo-surround, marketing, and things to do in hotel rooms

May 10th, 2007

With a title like that, you KNOW you have to listen! Dina and Tom discuss “surround” systems from one or two speakers, Hilton putting surround systems in some of their rooms (Tom thought it was SF and LV but it was really SF and Chicago), the tacts that marketers take to get you to buy their AV gear, and the Law of Diminishing Returns. There’s a couple of movie reviews in there, Clint DeBoer, Editor in Chief of Audioholics shows up to discuss the Epson Home Cinema 1080p Projector, and much, much more (mostly off topic). We’ve got new music, better audio quality, and a phone number. Check it out!

Until you try Colombian coffee, you don’t know what your missing.

Wow, Gene listened to the end?!? Cool. And I didn’t say I’d never tried it, I’m just not convinced with all the appellations out there that Colombian is the best simply because Juan Valdez and his donkey say so.

I don’t drink coffee, although dina sometimes does. It just weirds me out to wake up and find that Colombian dude and his donkey wandering around in my kitchen…

Are y’all really talking about coffee???!?!?!? I don’t want another word said to ME about being off topic…

Nah, I just randomly forwarded to the part about coffee 🙂

Of course there are brands pretending to be Colombian much like Budweiser pretends to brew REAL beer, Bowflex pretends to make REAL exercise gear, and Bose pretends to make high end speakers. All I can tell you is I sat in Bertha’s uncles house where he grinded REAL Colombian coffee that he got from his home city and made me a cup. Since then, I never had a better cup of coffee, and until my doctor recently told I need to take caffeine out of my diet, I was quite the avid coffee drinker.

Up until now I have only listened to the HTGuys as they were the only show in town. Your ‘cast seems interesting and, after listening to half of Episode I, I’d like to hear more. I’m sure it will evolve into a terrific program. Production values are wonderful! Problem, I can’t be chained to my computer to listen (Had to shut off Ep I today to watch the kids in the pool.). Could you please get your show listed in iTunes? Live Bookmarks does me no good and I have no interest in using a separate aggregator; I need this stuff on my iPod so I can survive my job!

    Thanks!

ps, I went with the Soundmatters MainStage in the bedroom, it fits right on top of my Oppo 970 on top of the armoir now that all the space inside the armoir (designed for about a 20″ CRT) has been taken up by an Olevia 532H – it sounds great and it’s small! Even the wife likes it!

We are now listed on iTunes and soon will be showing up just about everywhere else.
