AVRant #22: “Live” at Clearwater

October 8th, 2007 1 comment

So there we were, “live” at Clearwater Beach for the 2007 Audioholics State of the CE Union Party Event. It was nice, our hotel was thumping with the sounds of over 13 subwoofers all pounding at the same time while we put on a podcast starring J and Dina Clarke, Clint DeBoer and Sith Lord” Darth (Gene) DellaSala. Where was Tom? Goofing off at his brother’s wedding – as if THAT was important! ANy, we talk about the demo rooms (there were four in all and they were pretty impressive), new products, and a mysterious Audioholics announcement that if you weren’t there you will have no idea about until you read it on Audioholics.com

I need a good room… for videos

September 28th, 2007 Comments off

Being a reviewer means, apparently to my wife’s chagrin, never having to vacuum. I have so much stuff lying around my theater room floor and office that it’s hard to realize I have more than the 4 square feet allocated to me by my chair. Now, this isn’t necessarily a big deal, except that I want to start shooting more videos. Video First Looks we call them – and they allow us to post quick info on new products that show off interesting features. It’s a cool concept, but now I have to set up a mini studio – and that’s a big project.

Don’t Know What You Got Til Its Gone

September 26th, 2007 1 comment

Yes, it’s a famous “ballad” by a screechy, overly made-up girly-looking 80’s hair band, but it’s also the way I feel now that Tom has been out of reach for several long weeks… What’s that? It’s only been a week and a half…? Well, whatever, it feels like it’s been a lot longer. Tom takes care of loads of “crap” work – we shovel it to him, he puts on some gloves and molds it into something useful. Now I’m shoveling my own crap and it stinks. Oh yeah, and we posted the CEDIA video today.

Hi, I Don’t Understand Basic Electricity

August 28th, 2007 Comments off

According to an article on Gizmodo, Larry Page, Google founder and Billionaire tree-hugger, is sick and tired of “inefficient power supplies in servers eating up boatloads of his profits” so he’s calling for home computers and servers to have everything run at 12VDC. This would eliminate the hodgepodge of 5VDC and 12VDC mixed systems located within PCs today.

Funniest post I’ve ever read

August 21st, 2007 2 comments

I’m a fan of short and to the point – so this post by IamAhab (his first ever) over at Audioholics really had me rolling:

IamAhab’s first post on the site:

Please don’t ban me. I promise I’ll behave! But seriously, I just went to log in at the av123 forum and I was informed that I had been banned. The wierd thing is, I’VE NEVER EVEN POSTED THEIR!!! I just spent a grand on Onix speakers and was looking forward to spending some time on their forum. Hope things go a little better for me over here.

Official response (on our forum) from an admin over at AV123:

IamAhab,

Apologies for the error. Your account was flagged as it shows classic signs of what spammers sign up with. We regret the error. I have activated your account.

If you would please change your user name from ‘pooponastick’ to something more family friendly, it would be sincerely appreciated.

Thanks!

Sean / AV123
