Leif and Rob are back once more and we go totally overboard! Leif talks Hulu
Plus. Rob talks Playstation Plus. Local storage vs. Cloud storage – what’s
better? Can we get rid of local TV affiliates… please? Why? Because they’re
as outdated as movie theaters and newspapers! Alexandre has a burned-in
Kuro. Rob weighs in. Let’s build a front projection home theater room! Check
the links below for some recommended products. “Rental Only” discs suck! So
do unskippable trailers. But we love bad movies, so long as they make good
demo discs!

Thanks so much, once again, to Tom, Dina and Clint. Please post your
comments and visit the AVRant Facebook page! Visit Leif’s

Tom is BACK!!! Briefly. Not sure if he’ll have Internet next week so the last Rob episode will be held for another week. Tom talks a bit about Australia and how it differs from the US. Aside from the offerings on TV, he’s tentatively optimistic. Clint’s got some more thoughts on HTbaseT. Netflix is coming to another country that isn’t Australia so Tom doesn’t really care. Quickflix is no Netflix. Sound Advice rises from the dead. High end audio is coming to a big box store near you. Tom has a few thoughts about light control. This one is late because Tom’s not used to the 12 hour time difference. Well, at least he’s back(ish). Next week may be the last Rob episode which promises to be extra long. This week it’s Tim and Hollis – two audio engineers. You may remember Tim from a while back when he recorded a guest episode with Tom. On tap for this week: Hollis is looking for 5.1 headphones. Apple’s new Mac Mini. Rental windows online. Why does Apple hate Blu-ray so much? DVD conspiracy? Blu-ray vs. DVD. If you have a PS3 do you need a standalone Blu-ray player? No but the question is do you want one? Hollis is tempted. What do you call your TV room? Movie theater disorientation. Wireless interference. Hold on to your hats, here comes golf in 3D! Motion control, iPad, and apps. Tim has no love for Hulu, Hollis explains. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley. Indeed, I have made it to Australia. After 40 or so hours in transit with three young boys we arrived in Perth – exhausted, jet lagged, and generally discombobulated. But we’re here. My wife’s company is putting us up for two weeks so that we can find a place to live and a car. Is that a lot of time? No. So we’ve been seeing as many rental properties as possible. And what does Tom do the minute he walks into a stranger’s house? You guessed it, check out the speakers. Let’s just say that compared to the HTiB systems I generally run into in the states, Oz is crushing us in the HT department. Read the rest of this entry >>

It’s a simple but thoroughly “giddy” AV Rant, with Clint filling in for Tom and Dina taking part in her very… last… podcast… until she returns from a summer sabbatical, that is. It is finally revealed that Audioholics is now shooting a series of video reviews. And they look really really awesome! We discuss the new Hulu Plus service for $9.99/month. Will it, Netflix and an an OTA satellite replace cableTV? Clint thinks so.

Tom is indeed alive and well and has successfully circumnavigated the globe to Australia. We’re sure we’ll be hearing from him soon.

Oh, and HDMI is dead. It’s kicked the bucket, shuffled off its mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin’ choir invisible. It is an EX-technology. And a new gun in town, HDBaseT, is set to replace it. Why? Because it is infinitely more awesome, user-friendly and flexible… and it’s already endorsed by the likes of LG, Samsung and Sony Pictures. Trust us, it’s the bomb and you WANT it – we explain why in the podcast.

We would love to read your feedback in the comments or over at the AV Rant Facebook fan page! Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley.
