AVRant #89: The Joy of HDMI

August 28th, 2008

Clint has a great idea… too late. Some of our CEDIA plans. Nelson has a comment, Tom has a retort. Tom’s got a Westinghouse LCD in for review – he gives a quick preview. Using your wife’s comments in a review is taboo. Bilbo thinks people don’t know what a good display is. Tom agrees. Is ISF calibration for you? Maybe. What is image retention and what do you do about it. Dina’s not stupid. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley.

Just not right.

this is jason with the onkyo thanx for ariing my rant. It took everything i have not to give my rant with alot of words that would get me banned forever. I did buy my 805 from a dealer. When i called my dealer he told me the same thing “WE ARE NOT LIABLE”. O well polk gave me new speakers and from now on i will only buy denon. love the show
    later jason
P.S. i dont know if you remember i called about 2 months ago and asked if i needed to buy another amp to run my fronts. You guys said i could run my polks with a clock radio. thats incorrect because i got a outlaw monoblock two channel amp and you can tell the difference in sound.

I remember reading those crazy posts about plasma break in on AVSForum a while back. If I remember correctly they have a special disk that they play for something like 100 hours straight. Said disk was often linked to as an ISO and people often asked for the link so they could break in their new plasmas.

I have to admit I believed the crazies. After all, if the disk didn’t have static images on it couldn’t hurt…could it?

Doubt I’ll ever know. I’ve had my eye on a new Pioneer for some time now, but I doubt I’ll ever be able to afford one.

Jason – glad you are happy with your purchase.

David – I was reading crazy posts just recently. Don’t worry, prices are coming down day by day. I’m guessing we’re going to see some outrageously low prices in just a few years especially when OLED starts rolling out.

I’m telling you, she’s catching the geek. Pretty soon she won’t even ask me what HDCP means. 🙂
