AVRant #72: Measuring your worth

Tom and Dina lament on how much Skype sucks. Dina defies Newton and pays the price. Tom is like his mom. Do you turn movies off or walk out of theaters? Why is audio such an afterthought in movies? Tom and Dina discuss the use of surrounds in movies. What it takes to be an avant-garde director. Tom caught a couple of cool short films from the Now Film Festival. Check out Expendable. The person Tom was trying to remember was Dwight Schrute played by Rainn Wilson. Tom hates MySpace (shock). Dina has a question about Star Wars. For once, they agree on something. Michael Hollick is complaining about his $100,000. Why do people buy video games? Thanks Jeremy for the pic (look below). Keep up the great work. Will 3-D save the movie theater when there are already home displays that are 3-D capable? Only time will tell. Yul Brynner is tough. Tom doesn’t like country music or Second Life. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley.
Costume possibility for the Audioholics party? Maybe...

Dina finally admits that she has a Claudia Black outfit… I love it.

Dina, you need to send us some more pics so we can use more expressions and get more photos.

Next we need listeners to submit a new theme song. I can hear it now…

Tom, check out Leo Laporte’s TWiT podcast. Massive Skype user. Always bringing guests on the podcast live. Does Vidcast, too. http://twit.tv/

Don’t know what’s in his rig, or how he does it, but he makes it work.

Great show today. Never heard Tom laugh, so hard. Sorry Dina. ;-)

You should check out Water Horse on BluRay.
They have some very interesting 3D surround usage which was the first time I stopped and said, wow that was the first time recently where the surround channels seemed part of the plan vs. an after thought.

Water Horse? Never heard of it. I’ll see if I can pick it up.

fp – I have listened to TWiT. Great show. I’m not sure how they do it. Look for a post about our skype problems soon. You should have seen her face when she fell out of the chair. Hi-larious. :D

z – I’ll look for some. Probably have to wait until July when I visit my parents. I was sort of too full of angst to get my picture taken back then.

Funny the last film I walked out on also starred Steve Martin. It was Leap of Faith where he plays a TV evangelist.

Yeah, that one didn’t really look all that great. Which reminds me, is it just me or does that new Mike Myers movie look completely lame?
