Streaming Audio-Video from CES

January 3rd, 2008

First of all, sorry about stalling on the countdown to CES mini-casts. As we get closer, we get busier. We’re trying to get more to you now.

As all of you that have subscribed to email notifications already know, I created a ustream page. What’s ustream? It’s a way of streaming audio and video over the net to just about anyone. What’s most important is that it is free. Free to you and free to me.

I first looked into ustream because I wanted a way for people to watch Dina and I Podcast. That way you’d not only get the unedited Podcasts but also have a chance to interact. The problem is that Dina and I aren’t close enough so that we can Podcast in the same room and there is no really viable way for you to see both of our feeds without delay problems. So the idea was scrapped.

Until CES 2008.

While the lovely, demure, and armed Dina won’t be in attendance, Clint, Gene, Tony and I will. We’ll be Podcasting at least once and I plan on keeping the feed running as often as I can. You can watch and hear us Podcast, work, and everything else. Ustream also has an IM function so you can ask some questions as well. It should make for a pretty cool time.

In order to use the IM function, you need to be a member of ustream so you might want to run over there and register now. Also, CES is in Las Vegas so we’ll probably be broadcasting later in the day. You might have to put off your late night frag fests for a few days in order to participate. I’d highly recommend you sign up for email notifications (you can do that below). I’ll be writing a quick post so that people will know when we’re going live.

Now, I will say that this is all predicated on the assumption that the Internet at our hotel doesn’t suck. We’ll see.

I can’t believe I’m not going…. Having serious freakouts just thinking about it. It will be fun to watch you guys posting though. Have mentioned the R rating for the stream?

Having been to CEDIA and stayed up ALL NIGHT with you geeks, I can give the people a little sneak preview of what they are in for seeing and hearing…

“blah, blah, technology, blah, fidelity, blah, cool!, blah, blah, gadget, blah”

“yada, yada, Yoda, Star Wars, Star Trek, (fill in ENDLESS movie and Robot Chicken quotes here…), yada”

    *fart*

Well, that about sums it up! Tune in and see if I’m right…

Yeah, depending on how we do it, it might be a little R rated. 20 hour days and drinking your body weight in coffee will do that. We may only go live during certain times – it all depends. It’s going to be a big experiment. Since we’ll probably be broadcasting so late, I’m not very worried that too many kids will be watching. Too busy head-shotting guys like me on Halo.

Dina’s about right except without her around there will be a lot more farting.

a LOT more. If the Internet connection can support it I say let it roll until we go to bed… Though that means we’ll have to watch what we say a little…
