Just want to clarify something. HDMI 1.3 can technically send 3D video as long as the cable you are using has enough bandwidth to do so. Most HDMI 1.3 cables that can send 1080p/60 have more than enough bandwidth to send the signal. HDMI 1.4 is not required, however it is the only thing that is guaranteed to work. The problem with HDMI 1.3 is going to be with HDMI switches and receivers that are processing a signal that they don’t understand. Most receivers are going to block the 3D signal, because it wasn’t in the the original HDMI 1.3 spec.

The owner of the speaker company that makes the speakers Tom was banging on wanted me to remove my comments from the forum. I think I’ll give him the link to this podcast instead. What I said in the forum will look like a compliment now 🙂

Whoa. The movie discussion at the end was extremely confusing…what with the out-of-sync conversation and all. Switched to the video version…

Zhimbo – OK, turns out my USB preamp/soundcard was going bad. It finally died during the last podcast. The sync problems as well as the audio distortion I’ve been experiencing is all related to that. I’m on the market for a new interface and hopefully will have one in hand soon. Sorry about that.

The Apogee ONE looks good, got good reviews, and is most likely the next interface I will get; stereo in, stereo out, mic preamp/phantom power (which I believe is bus powered), built-in condenser mic, USB. $249.

Thanks for the heads up Ted – for those that don’t follow the Twitter account, the backend of the AV Rant site isn’t accessible right now. I’ll post the podcast just as soon as it is fixed.

Yeah, that’s not going to work. I need phantom power and at least two mic inputs along with compatibility with an Alesis 3630 compressor.

Ah, so that’s why there’s no podcast this week. Hope you get it all sorted out soon, I need my fix!

Tom, it does have phantom power, but you’re right, it doesn’t have channel inserts for your external compressor.

Regardless of what interface you end up with, you could do what I did and abandon external compressors altogether; recording at 24-bit, you have so much headroom (which is really “floor room”) that you can record at a low level, to avoid clipping, and compress in post processing.

    Works great on music.

The drawback is, obviously, that your signal wouldn’t be compressed for Dina, et al to monitor during your session.
